Cat Ba Island is part of the Halong Bay near the border of Northern Vietnam and China. Our great grandparents were part of the Viet- Chinese fisherman that settled there for the abundance of seafood and great quality of life. Living in a floating home and fishing everyday was a holiday everyday in itself.
In 1979, the third Indo-China War broke out between China and Vietnam. Relations between both countries went sour leading to the Vietnamese government evicting all fishermen, majority of them Chinese from the Halong Bay area were sent back to China. Our grandparents were part of this expelled movement which led them settle in Beihai Guangxi , China.
This is where the story of the fish market began. Our grandparents knowledge of the ocean, wind sailing ability, and fish catching skills led to them opening their first fish stall in the new hometown. Success is no accident. It's labor intensive hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all , love for what you doing that led to four generations of achievement in the seafood industry.
